Where is Science and Technology Headed Next?

USA Today ran an article last week regarding American’s thoughts on science and technology. Not surprisingly, America’s put a lot of faith into technology. They are optimistic that science will continue to develop new technologies which includes providing better medical care and traveling to other planets. At the same time, there is concern over the abuse of that technology. Developments in genetic technology worries some. There does seem to be some disconnect between what is truly possible and what American’s predict will happen. Science fiction has driven that optimism leading Americans to think about the future.
So where is technology heading? Will we have laboratory created organs to use in transplantation? Will gene replacement therapy be as simple as a taking a pill? What is the next step in computer technology? It seems like science and technology has an unlimited potential. However, one needs to carefully consider the impact of that science and technology. Ethics needs to in the forefront of the discussion and innovations. It is important to consider the potential ramifications for every new technological development.
What kind of technology would you like to see in the future? Any technologies that have you worried?
